OPKIM at Kampung Tunku 3

Last Saturday, my friend and I have joined OPKIM organized by JPK Sector C. OPKIM is a community services program. Usually, OPKIM have done at the village or rural area. There are objective of this program, to build a cooperation spirit among the student and villagers, to strengthen ties between the student and villagers and to introduce this village to all UITM student. “Kampung Tungku 3” is a one of the village in a rural area, before we reach at the village we went through “Sekolah kebangsaan Kampung Tengah”, Sungai Kapeh bridge, Kampung Baru, water lodge, chinese tomb and Serian field. After half hour, we arrive at “Kampung Tunku 3” and we were friendly welcome by the villagers. My friend and I were very excited. This is a first time we joined program like this. Next, we were hear the speech from president of UMNO Kampung Tungku 3, president of Gerakan Daya Wawasan Kampung tunku 3, president of Platun Rela 0033 and village head of kampong tunku 3. All of them were welcome we and very thanks because opt Kampung Tunku 3.

After that,we go to our adopted family home, Nurul Fashiehah, Siti Nuraisyah and I get a same adopted family. Our mothers always smile and welcome us. Our mother introduces their children one by one. Then, we are wanted to assemble and our JPK have divided us, for four groups to do their own task by group. I was in a first group and our group gets a lemang as our task. We are very happy get a lemang as our task, because before that we just buy lemang at street. The process of making traditional lemang can keep one’s hand full, as it is not easy to make a good lemang. First, we must put a “daun lerek” into a bamboo that has been cut to a length considered reasonable by the cook. At the same time mak Yah try to explain more about lemang. She said, beside “daun lerek” we also use banana leaf, but banana leaf is to thin, so it uneasy to put it into a bamboo. After that, we put an amount of uncooked glutinous rice will be measured and filled in the bamboo stick along with a cup of diluted coconut milk and salt.

According to mak Yah, the process of choosing and cleaning the bamboo as well as filling the bamboo with uncooked glutinous rice as well as coconut milk and salt is actually the easy part in the whole process of lemang making. The hard part is actually cooking the lemang to perfection. After filling in the bamboo with necessary ingredients, the lemang will then be sent to a large open fire that is set up earlier by using loads of coals and firewood. To avoid the lemang from being burnt, one would need to constantly take care of the fire and constantly rotate the lemang so that it will be evenly cooked. After two hour, our lemang is ready to serve for fast break.

Another, three group have get their own task. Second group get help the villager to jelly, third group make a “tumpi rempeyek” and the forth group make a dishes and bubur lambuk for fast break. Have a few dishes that have made by them such as curry meat, banana stew and salted fish. The entire dishes make by them was very delicious.

After fast break we pray “magrib” and “terawih” together. We finished pray at nine and half hour. At the same time, I feel very sad because it is the end of our program. Before go back to UITM, we great to our adopted family and snap a picture for make a memories.

Memories of ramadan

Ramadan is coming back, a lot of memories about Ramadan. I had learn fast since six years old. At the age I just can fasting only half day. My mom say “it’s okay, nice try”. The next and next day I try to fasting full day, and trial successful. Fasting in the next year, I have almost a full month of fasting. That, story is during my first try to fasting.

Next, I want to story about my fasting during I was school at Technique, went I was study at technique it was the first time I fasting far from my family. Happy causes can fasting break with my friends and sad cannot fasting break with my family. But it is a great experience, breaking the fast with food provided. I cannot choose a food, it is very different went I at home, at home I can tell my mom what food I want to eat. During Ramadan my father always make a juice such as, watermelon juice, orange juice and apple juice. My father say, that juice is good for our health, especially during Ramadan; our body lost a lot of water and nutrition. So, juice is very good to balance our metabolism.

Our fasting break is not complete without date. Date is very familiar with fast, date is the name of the fruit of the Date Palm, which is believed to have originated somewhere in the desert oases of northern Africa and, perhaps, southwest Asia. The people of the Middle East have consumed dates, as a part of their staple diet, since centuries, mainly owing to its high nutritional value. Apart from being rich in natural fibers, dates also comprise of a lot of other nutrients, like oil, calcium, sulfur, iron, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, copper, magnesium, etc. In fact, it is said that one date is a minimum of a balanced and healthy diet. In the following lines, we have listed the various health and nutrition benefits of eating dates. So, not loss if we start our fasting breaks with date.

Next bad experience during Ramadan is when I was in university, my friend and I just “sahur” with maggi and cool water. It is a bad and new experience here. Different when I at technique school. There, all of the food for “sahur” is provided. But here I have to survive to find a food for “sahur”. What is interesting here is “Bazar Ramadan” at yard of “Dataran sri Bendehara”. Various of food sold here, dishes and “kuih muih”, but not same with dishes and “ kuih” make from my mom. But, I still enjoy fasting here.

I can not wait for the Ramadan coming.

Being a senior

4 July 2010. Now I entered UITM as a part 3 student. So, I’m a senior for part 1 and part 2 student. When I in a part 2, I must be present at any activity sponsored by college or UITM. For example “malam citrawarna” , college sports, introductory ceremony club, annual grand meeting for the club and so on. That all activity make my time a very limited and I must manage a time very well. To make sure I can do a revision and exercise that given from lecturer.

Thank God, although I busy with the activity I still get a good result. This semester I not required attending the activity but if I have free time, I'll go to get coupons attendance, to ensure I get to college next semester. College eligibility based on the merits that attending any activity in college or UITM. All a activity have their own merit, for example when attend as a audience student will get 3 mark, when attend as a participant student will get 5 merit and when attend as a organizer student will get 10 merit.

Being as a senior in part 3 also shown that is the last semester that I will take a co- curriculum, at the first semester I take a “Kesatria Negara” as my co-curriculum, part 2, I take a Islamic mind thinking and part 3 I take a Badminton as my co-curriculum. From the third, I think badminton is the best, no pressure and I enjoyed with the game.

Being as a senior as a part 3 student is no difference and privilege with another student. I also must attending class and activity to make sure I can stay at the UITM and college until the end of the semester and graduate with distinctive.
